The economics that supported the news industry for most of the twentieth century are no longer viable. As a result, the civic function news provides is under threat. The objective of this research was to suss out the essential ingredients that make revenue generating roles at exemplary Civic News Organizations successful. This research is designed to provide useful information about the hiring practices, role responsibilities, pitfalls to avoid, and expected return on investment of these critical roles.
