Legends of love and fertility: Mystical sites in the Balkans

Two mysterious places in the Balkans: the White Bridge in Vranje, Serbia, and the Black Stone in Veles, North Macedonia are steeped in legends and historical narratives that continue to captivate the imagination of locals and visitors alike.

The White Bridge is a poignant symbol of a tragic love story between a Serb and a Turkish woman during the Ottoman rule in southern Serbia. Built at the site where the two lovers met their untimely end, the bridge is believed to possess miraculous properties that endure to this day.

Meanwhile, the Black Stone in Veles is shrouded in its own mystique. It is a revered spot where young married couples come with hopes and prayers for children, adding to its reputation as a place of fertility and blessings.
