Ohrid News

OhridNews, an independent news portal from the lakeside town of Ohrid, works on introducing new product/service on the market, an interactive website that will inform, engage and educate the wider public in the field of tourism. The idea is that the new website will become a self-sustainable business unit that will secure extra income for OhridNews.

Unfortunately, the project implementation was slowed down due to Covid-19 related complications. “At the moment we are at the final stage of implementation. We need a little bit more time to finalise the project. We expect all to be done by the end of April,” Goran Momiroski, editor-in-chief at OhridNews said.

The new website will focus on the regions of Ohrid and Struga in North Macedonia, and communities surrounding the Ohrid Lake in Albania by providing transparent, all-encompassing coverage of the touristic sector.

It will inform the reader about existing attractions, events, experiences, available accommodation, contact information of institutions and emergency services, etc. Also, it will educate the readers on the history, existing traditions, culinary specialties throughout engaging stories. And will redirect the readers to the relevant websites for making reservations/purchase for events, accommodation, and tours. Added mission is to raise awareness about the importance of the natural resources and suggest ways on how to preserve the environment with conscious utilisation of resources.

OhridNews is the first regional online portal in the south-west region in North Macedonia. Since January 2007, the online portal has published over 130.000 news, stories, columns and video shows. The portal is one of the 11 outlets from North Macedonia that are part of the Media for All business development grant scheme. The project is funded by the UK Government and implemented by the British Council, Thomson Foundation, BIRN and INTRAC in all Western Balkans countries.
