Are you a young journalist or journalism student from Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, or Kosovo, passionate about tackling the evolving challenges in today’s media landscape?

Apply now for a free workshop Beyond the headlines: Crafting the ideas for the future of journalism that aims to inspire and equip the next generation of journalists in the Western Balkans with the tools and insights to drive innovation in the media industry!

The workshop will be held from 27 to 28 October in Durres, Albania, and the official language of the programme will be English.

About the workshop

This workshop, part of the Media Innovation Europe (MIE) project, offers participants the unique opportunity to collaborate with senior media professionals across Europe. You will work in small teams to develop creative, out-of-the-box solutions to some of the most pressing issues in today’s media landscape, such as the role of AI and digital innovation. Participants can create and present their ideas and receive peer feedback, making the best proposals eligible for further support. 

The workshop will be the first step in bringing creative solutions to ongoing problems and challenges in the media industry. 

Solutions articulated in the form of ideas with mentoring support will be further considered for support through Thomson’s Validation Booster programme. This programme provides selected teams with the financial support and resources necessary to test, validate, and scale their ideas and prepare users for the follow-up implementation support pitch.

About the project

Media Innovation Europe 2.0 (MIE) is a two-year programme co-funded by the European Union aiming to provide support to European newsrooms and individuals through business needs assessments and personalised advisory, grants, pieces of training, and mentorship to media managers and journalists that work or are building working in and building newsrooms that are moving towards a complete digital transition. MIE’s overall goal is to empower media outlets to navigate a changing media industry, providing tools and guidance to align their journalistic products, business structures, and means of discovery and distribution in an audience-focused and sustainable way. The project is delivered by a consortium led by the Vienna-based International Press Institute (IPI) together with the Berlin-based Thomson Media (TM), The Fix Foundation (TFF), and the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN). 

Journalift is an online resource platform with state-of-the-art hands-on practices and knowledge for people who want to know more about media development, media business and the newest trends in the media industry. It has been designed as a knowledge hub focused on the media outlets needs.
We see ourselves as ‘game changers’, in the media development community that bring new ideas, innovative tools and result-based approaches to media businesses operation.
